Lupita

Lupita - Monica Wise Robles

Watching her family slaughtered, Lupita and her brother had to hide as her community were torn apart by the Acteal massacre in 1997. Following this unprovoked attack, the indigenous people took a stand against corrupt militants and their commanders. This courageous woman empowers all to make their voices heard as their land is stolen, their family members go missing and the high rates of murders across their villages. This is an inspirational story to all. Her determination and fearlessness will show everyone that change starts with you. By demonstrating her concerns and committing to the cause, Lupita was able to shine a light on this injustice. This documentary plays on a handful of themes including sexism. Lupita explains how women are raped and murdered by the people they should trust due to their culture.

This hard hitting short, is immensely powerful and encouraging. Having watched this documentary, I understood the power of speech even more. Relating this documentary to a global issue would signify that change can be a slow process, but people need to be consistent and committed in order to notice this evolution. I loved the format of this documentary as it makes the viewer feel as though they are stood there with Lupita, helping her make a difference. Definitely recommend this documentary.
