After the finding of a mass grave, several women come together to help identify 100 murdered bodies in an attempt to discover the missing people.
One hard-hitting moment for me was the scene in which family members all came together for a meeting and one by one described their loved one that was missing. There was a collective sense of togetherness as they were unfortunately all connected by their missing people.
Furthermore, Carolina Corral does an impeccable job at provoking the audience to feel loss and despair towards this tragedy. This is through the intimacy you get through Corral’s filming as there is a notion the camera is constantly on, making sure everything is documented – from the honest emotions to the findings of the grave. In addition, the inclusion of the illustrations of what the bodies were wearing for identification purposes were so powerful as it reaffirmed that these bodies were real people with loved ones missing them.
It is frustrating that the uncovering of the mass grave was not a focus of mainstream news, however, I feel fortunate that my education of this tragedy was this documentary as it was so brilliantly done.
