Seekers

Although the slow pace of this film can leave attention drifting at times, it is a highly important piece in documenting the lives of Native Americans in modern America. I found it very interesting to see what life looks like for their people in a modern world known to work against them and found the results heart-breaking. The fear of their people to lose their culture and heritage was anger inducing. But, as this documentary portrayed, their community has its own issues with corruption much like the larger government of the country. It becomes hard to understand why anyone would be willing to erase their own country in return for money or power, but it is common throughout history.

No matter the reason, more must be done to protect Native Americans and more films like this should be made to show their lives and celebrate their culture. The despair of their situation, fighting Mexico and the USA for their rights as a people must not be forgotten and I believe more should be done to help them. It does not need affirming but this piece shows how deep the racism in America runs, even into its most native people who are expected to shun their identity for a place in society. Overall, this film was a success as it did what all documentaries should, it raised awareness without glamourizing the reality of the Jicarillas tribe.
