Wellspring

Although I lost the narrative whilst watching this, Wellspring is a beautiful portrait of Rosemary and Nancy, and their project to re-home over 500 families over a thirty-year period.

It feels peaceful and easy to watch, with an element of poetry as the inclusion of nature clips is contrasted with archived videos and moments of the two women speaking from their home. It is, in simple terms, a nice film, with a calming sense about it.

At times, this film was frustrating to watch. The clips of Nancy and Rosemary talking were either out of sync with the narration, or just happened to be using similar words/phrases occasionally. One way this could have been solved is if the clips were to have been shortened and used more frequently, rather than the long bursts to make it seem as though the narration has come from that video.

Rosemary and Nancy are clearly remarkable women and I am so glad they have had their story told; however, I just wish it was more memorable. They deserve a film that will cause people to come away and think ‘wow I need to tell people about this’, but unfortunately it is not a film I will be recommending to anyone.
