The Story of Plastic

The Story of Plasticsn (Kyle Cadotte, Stiv Wilson and Megan Ponder)

I think this is a documentary that everyone should watch. This documentary follows the cause and concern of the use of plastic as well as highlighting its effect on everyday life. You learn about how, in addition to why, the plastic is used and how the it can never be efficiently disposed. Scientists question whether it is ever possible to effectively manage plastic waste by identifying that the route cause for this crisis is the introduction to single use plastic such as sachets. You learn how countries are targeted by companies due to their lack of knowledge regarding the topic. Successful high street brands supply certain companies with different standards as a method of passing on the blame.

Although I was aware of the concern, this documentary highlighted to me that no one is innocent. Whether you use plastic bags or buy plastic toothbrushes or support fast fashion brands, you are to blame for the lasting effect on the planet. We then learn how the world could become ‘zero waste’ but until this is supported by legislation, companies will never voluntarily do this due to the cost. We are enlightened by the medical, environmental and educational affects these pollutants have on humans, leaving you questioning whether using plastic is really worth it?
